Thoracotomy
Meet Billy!
Billy attended Spring Corner vets recently unwell with increasing breathing difficulties. After an examination by Louis, one of the vets, an X-Ray was taken showing a large chest mass. Billy was referred to VOAS and a contrast CT scan was performed.

The CT scan identified a large tumour of the left cranial lung lobe, occupying 1/3 of the chest cavity. Following discussion with his very concerned owners, Billy was prepared for surgery.
A cranial sternotomy was performed, and after a complex 90-minute surgery, the lung lobe was removed. Surgery was complicated as the tumour extended internally to the left main bronchus. Billy's recovering was uneventful and after a night's observation, Billy was happily discharged the next morning.
At VOAS, we are fully equipped to perform these surgeries. All thoracotomy anaesthetic are managed with a ventilator and to accurately perform a sternotomy in a cat, the finest sagittal saw is required.
The surgery was performed by Tom, assisted by our referring vet Louis. The total cost at VOAS including CT was £2000.
